You can modify the CPU frequency in two ways:
1) Changing the multiplier
2) Changing the FrontSideBus
The CPU frequency is the product of multiplier and FrontSideBus. Many mainboards support that the user can switch the FrontSideBus by programming the new frequency with some commands via the SystemManagementBus, so you could change the CPU frequency while windows is running without leaving the operating system.
There are only two disadvantages:
1) You must know the vendor and the version number of the PLL IC that is responsible for the FSB frequency. There are only eight major companies that sell these IC's (cypress bought icw so it is the same internet address)
The PLL of NVidia Chipsets is included in the south bridge. So there is no PLL to find. NVidia southbridges are all supported.

There are two possiblities to find the version of PLL IC. The first is that it is already implented in CPUCooL. Please email me your board type and PLL IC and it will be added to the list. If it is not in the list, you must look at your motherboard. There are several IC's and a crystal with a value of 14.3 MHz typed on top, it is next to this crystal that the IC's normaly reside. Then you should look at the supported PLL's and if there is a match you are the winner.
Here are some examples:
2) Speeding the FrontSideBus can be critical thing because you leave the specifications of the chip producer, it is possible to blow your CPU. But I have not heard of such a case (Please send me a e-mail). Here are the front side bus speeds of different CPU's. If you have speed up you CPU to a frequency which is too high, the system will hang, right at the moment you press the SET FREQUENCY button. Normally you have to switch off the power to reboot your system.

CPUCooL does not support the following PLL's because they do not have a System Management Bus connection or the FSB could not be set via System Management Bus. So there is and will be no program that supports these PLL's!!! There is absolutely no chance!

If you have found one of these ic's, please have a look at the mainboard again. These IC's could not change the Frontsidebus! It includes all letters that follow the numbers. I simply write XX for any number of letters.
